Tourist arrivals up despite bad weather

KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Tourism Minister Wykeham McNeill says his ministry is in talks with its industry partners to improve tourist arrival numbers to the island after brutal weather in the US affected flights into Jamaica.

He says the winter tourist season, which is now in its second month, is performing well, with growth in arrivals over last year.

He notes that the preliminary figure is showing an increase of 4.7 per cent over last year.

However, he says the number could have been better if weather conditions in the US had not affected flights to Jamaica.

However, McNeill says there is nothing to worry or panic about.

The Minister was speaking at a tour of Trench Town in Kingston.
