JUTC boosts accident investigation capacity

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says it has set up an Accident Investigations Department as part of efforts to streamline the processes and procedures employed in crashes involving its buses.

The state-run bus company has also appointed Rayon Walters as Administrator Accident Investigations effective January 13.

The JUTC says among other things, Walters will be responsible for coordinating investigations relating to all major and fatal accidents involving JUTC buses.

It says he will also be required to make recommendations, where appropriate, to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents.

Head of JUTC’s Legal Department, Debbian Edwards, says the initiative is designed to ensure that accident reports are complete, are submitted on a timely basis and that the reports and other relevant documents are submitted to the insurance broker or company within the required period.

She says three accident investigators have also been added to the team.
