CRICKET: Sammy among West Indies players sold at IPL auction

Five West Indies players including Twenty20 and Test captain Darren Sammy were bought on the first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Bangalore.



The 30-year-old Sammy was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad.



Barbadian 22-year-old cricketer Jason Holder was also bought by Sunrisers.



Chennai Super Kings purchased the West Indies pair of Dwayne Smith and leg spinner Samuel Badree, who was listed as a bargain buy.



Chennai paid $48,318 for the Trinidadian.



The other West Indies player purchased on the opening day was pacer Ravi Rampaul.



Four West Indies players were retained by their IPL teams.



Explosive Jamaican opener Chris Gayle was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who purchased Rampaul.



The other West Indies players retained were Dwayne Bravo by Chennai, Sunil Narine by Kolkata Knight Riders and Kieron Pollard by Mumbai Indians.
