Water disruptions in sections of St Catherine, Kingston

Published:Thursday | February 13, 2014 | 11:08 AM

Several communities in Portmore, St Catherine and sections of Kingston will be without water today.

The National Water Commission (NWC) says water supply will be disrupted as a result of the dislocation of the 30 inch trunk main in at least two locations along the Rio Cobre/Tulloch Springs Water Supply Pipeline yesterday afternoon.

The NWC says initial reports indicate that the pipeline was damaged by blasting operations conducted by contractors working on the North/South Highway.

The areas to be affected by the disruptions include:

Gregory Park

Braeton

Independence City

Hellshire Heights

Greater Portmore

Sections of downtown Kingston

Spanish Town Road

Marcus Garvey Drive

Washington Boulevard and all roads leading off

Molynes Road

Eltham Park

Keystone

Sligoville

Kent Village

The NWC says an investigation is underway into the cause and extent of the damage.

The commission says it has engaged a contractor and has taken immediate steps to restore the pipeline in the shortest possible time.
