MoBay civil registry to be operational soon

Published:Friday | February 14, 2014 | 10:13 AM

Justice Minister Senator Mark Golding says his ministry is working to have the civil registry in Montego Bay, St James operational as soon as possible.

The Cornwall Bar Association has been calling for the Ministry of Justice to expedite the process to establish the registry, which was scheduled for implementation in January.

Senator Golding says preparatory work is far advanced.

However, he says there is some delay in the process due to an issue with the Finance Ministry.

President of the Cornwall Bar Association Michael Erskine has said that lawyers are anxiously awaiting the establishment of the civil registry as they currently have to travel to Kingston to file all civil matters.

He said a decentralised system would improve the process of filing cases.
