OUR brings forward Power Purchase Agreement signing date

Published:Saturday | February 15, 2014 | 12:26 PM

The date for the signing of power purchase agreements (PPA), by three entities that have been selected to provide 78 Megawatt of renewable energy to the national grid has been brought forward.

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) says the entities are now expected to sign the PPAs this month instead of the original date of June this year.

Seeking to explain the move, Director General of the OUR Albert Gordon says given the country’s imperative under the National Energy Policy, his agency is keen to have the agreements signed as a step towards the start and eventual completion of the projects.

The three entities, Blue Mountain Renewables, Wigton Windfarm Limited and WRB Enterprises, were selected following the recent request for proposal to provide 115 Megawatt of renewable energy to the national grid.

The OUR says it expects to be in a position to go back to the market later this year to identify firm capacity from renewable sources as no suitable bids for such projects were identified in the proposals received.
