Parliamentarians to get training

Published:Wednesday | February 19, 2014 | 10:31 AM

The Jamaican Government and the European Union yesterday inked an agreement for a grant which will assist in providing training for parliamentarians to better conduct the affairs of the country.

Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips says the grant, will, among other things facilitate the provision of advice to parliamentarians on financial-management issues.

He says generally, finance ministers bear responsibility for revenue-raising considerations and the rest of the House tends to focus on expenditure.

But Phillips says the grant will help to enhance the oversight of Parliament regarding public financial management.
