Police to launch anti-extortion campaign

Published:Sunday | February 23, 2014 | 12:16 PM

The police is to launch a nationwide anti-extortion public education campaign early next month.

The campaign is to be launched on March 3 and is aimed at empowering victims to report the crime.

In a release from its Corporate Communications Unit, the police say the move will form part of its community-based strategy to suppress extortion and build public trust.

However, they say the strategy cannot be effective if citizens do not cooperate with the police. They say extortion is a means used by criminals to finance their illicit activities and therefore needs to be eradicated.
