Eighteen-year-old St Jago High School athlete Cavahn McKenzie who collapsed at the end of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association Cross Country Championships in Tobago is said to have died from a "massive heart attack".

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association released a statement on February 22, advising that, around 3:30 p.m. McKenzie collapsed and was rushed to the Scarborough General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A report on the Trinidad Express Newspapers' website quotes National Association of Athletics Administrations public relations officer, Peter Samuel, saying that an autopsy “confirmed a massive heart attack”.

“They’re still waiting on other results,” Samuel continued. “The High Commission is seeing about getting the body released and sent to Jamaica.”

McKenzie competed in the Junior Men’s six-kilometre event at the Championships last Saturday.
