Jamaican expels 47 cannabis packets in Barbados, charged

A Jamaican man who passed out 47 packets containing cannabis shortly after he arrived in Barbados has been sentenced to 18 months in prison on drug-related charges.



Forty-six-year-old Patrick George Hanson, appeared at the District B Magistrate Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to the offences.



He was charged with possession of one-and-a-half pounds of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.



On the charges of possession and importation, the sentences are to run concurrently.



He was convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the remaining charges of trafficking and possession with intent to supply.



Hanson arrived by air from Jamaica on February 21 and was interviewed by police after clearing Immigration.



He was referred to a medical facility where he passed out the packets.
