President of the National Water Commission, Kingsley Thomas, says pipe repairs are now a priority of the Commission.

According to him, 70 per cent of the water distributed by the NWC is not collected for.

The president of the commission, who was speaking on Wednesday at a special meeting of the St Elizabeth Parish Council, was chided by councilors attending the meeting for the slow pace of response to leaking pipes.

Thomas said the NWC would be moving swiftly to address reports of leaks in order to minimise loses of the precious commodity.

This is in addition to the $8 billion to be spent on pump and tank repairs.

Four-hundred million of that amount will be spent in St Elizabeth.
