Police prepare to launch anti-extortion campaign

Published:Sunday | March 2, 2014 | 5:52 PM

The police's Organised Crime Investigations Division (OCID) is to host an anti-extortion press briefing tomorrow morning at its offices in downtown Kingston, ahead of launching a national anti-extortion campaign.

The campaign will form part of the police's community-based strategy to suppress extortion and build-up public trust.

The police say criminals use extortion to finance their illicit activities and therefore needs to be eradicated.

However, the police say the anti-extortion strategy cannot be effective if citizens do not cooperate with them.
