The Ministry of Health is to begin the phased implementation of the new national health card tomorrow.

Registration for the card began a month ago on February 3 in keeping with the March 3 implementation date as announced.

Come tomorrow health facilities, public pharmacies and Drugserv pharmacies will begin accepting the card, which is expected to quicken the registration process and improve service efficiency.

The card will be implemented over the next 18 to 24 months.

In a release this afternoon, the health ministry said public response has been good, with many centres reporting waiting lines for persons wanting to register.

Health Minister Dr Fenton Furguson has expressed pleasure with the progress made to date to implement the card, saying the process is on target.

The first batch of cards were mailed to applicants on February 24.

Persons registering are asked to provide their name, correct address, telephone number. They must also provide their tax registration number and PATH number where applicable.

Public health facilities, Drugserv pharmacies along with National Health Fund offices and the Ministry of Health have been accepting applications for the card.
