Dalvey Post Office in St Thomas yet to reopen

Published:Wednesday | March 5, 2014 | 9:11 AM

The councillor for the Dalvey division in St Thomas is questioning the delay in reopening the recently refurbished Dalvey Post Office in the parish.

Michael McLeod says more than a month ago, residents completed major repairs on the facility which was damaged during the passage of hurricane Sandy in 2012.

He says since then, residents have been awaiting a team of regional postal inspectors based in Port Antonio.

However, they have not turned up.

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre was unable to get a comment from the regional postal headquarters, as the personnel authorised to speak were reportedly unavailable.

The closure of the Dalvey Post Office has forced residents to travel more than five miles to the Golden Grove Police Station - the place where the postal office services were re-located after Sandy.

Pensioners are said to be the worst affected given the transportation cost to reach the facility and their inability to walk the distance.
