Labour campaign launched to raise awareness for household workers rights

The Labour Ministry has launched a media campaign aimed at engendering widespread support for the rights of household workers in Jamaica.



It coincides with increased calls by members of the Jamaica Household Workers' Union for the Government to ratify the International Labour Organisation Convention on Advancing Decent Work for Domestic Workers.



Errol Miller, the chief technical officer in the labour and social security ministry, says the matter is now before the Attorney General for an opinion as to whether a recommendation can be made for the Government to ratify the convention.



He says in order to ratify the convention; it must be consistent with Jamaican laws.
