$30m suit filed against Guyana newspaper by Attorney General Mandall

Published:Wednesday | March 5, 2014 | 12:28 PM

Guyana’s Attorney General Anil Mandall has filed a suit against the Kaieteur News newspaper seeking $30 million in damages.

The suit follows the publication of a series of articles which Mandall claims has caused him public embarrassment.

Mandall, who is also Guyana’s Legal Affairs Minister, has also obtained an ex-parte injunction which bars the newspaper from publishing any more of the alleged defamatory statements in one of its columns.

The suit names the newspaper’s Editor Adam Harris, publisher Glenn Lall and the National Media Publishing Company as respondents.

Mandall claims, in court papers, that the alleged libel was calculated to cause and did cause him great public embarrassment and held him up to ridicule both nationally and internationally.
