Two St Elizabeth policemen placed on interdiction after prisoners escape

Two policemen attached to the Santa Cruz police station, in St Elizabeth, have been placed on interdiction following last month’s jailbreak at the lock-up.

Two men who are facing separate murder charges were among the four prisoners who escaped from the Santa Cruz police lock-up on February 22 by cutting away the grille to a section of the facility.

Three of them have since been recaptured.

However, speaking to The Gleaner-Power 106 News Centre, head of the Inspectorate of the Constabulary, Assistant Commissioner Delworth Heath, revealed that the two policemen were interdicted because their negligence allowed the men to escape.

However, Heath made it clear that there was no evidence to suggest that the policemen assisted in the prisoners’ escape.
