The International Association of Athletics Federation has announced that more than US$2.4 million will be on offer from the federation as prize money at this weekend's World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland.

The winner of an individual event and a relay team winner will walk away with US$40,000 each.

In addition, there is also a US$50,000 bonus for any athlete setting a new World record during the three-day championships.

The 2014 indoor season has already produced three World indoor records.

Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia accounted for two of the world records.

She ran the 1500 metres in 3:55.17 in Karlsruhe, Germany, on February 1 and then reduced the 3,000-metre mark to 8:16.60 in Stockholm, Sweden, five days later.

Renaud Lavillenie improved the absolute pole vault world record to 6.1-6 metres in Donetsk, Ukraine, on February 15.
