Governor General Sir Patrick Allen has announced the appointments of retired Court of Appeal judge Justice Karl Harrison and Professor Alvin Wint as selected members of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ).

The appointments took effect on March 1 and will run for seven years.

King’s House says Justice Harrison and Professor Wint are replacing Dr Herbert Thompson and Justice Clarence Walker who were not available for reappointment.

The two newest ECJ members will serve with ECJ chairman Dorothy Pine McLarty and Earl Jarrett.

Thompson resigned last September after the Opposition protested his decision to accept an award for nation building from the People's National Party reportedly on behalf of the ECJ.

Pine McLarty was later appointed to head the commission.
