CARIFTA Trials on today, Under-20 and Under-18 athletes compete

Published:Saturday | March 8, 2014 | 9:10 AM

The two-day CARIFTA Trials to select Jamaica’s junior squad to the April 18-21 CARIFTA Games in Martinique will begin today at the National Stadium in Kingston.

Athletes will compete in the Under-20 and Under-18 categories.

The Under-18 age group is being run for the first time.

Last year, a decision was taken in the Bahamas to move from the Under-17 category to put the Games in line with the age levels at the Central American and Caribbean Championships and World Youth Championships.

As a result of that decision, more athletes will be able to make the trip this time around as there has been an increase to a maximum 84 athletes instead of 70 in the past.

Action today is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
