No disciplinary action yet in sexual assault case at Port Maria Infirmary

Published:Saturday | March 8, 2014 | 9:40 AM

Minister of Local Government Noel Arscott says he does not expect disciplinary action against anyone at the Port Maria Infirmary until the court case into the alleged rape of one of its residents is completed.

He says a report has been submitted following a probe into the sexual assault of the 69-year-old woman at the infirmary recently.

However, he says he does not expect a ruling on the findings before a decision is made regarding the accused currently before the court.

Arscott also says funding has been given to the St Mary Parish Council to increase security measures at the infirmary.

The incident reportedly happened on February 9 but was not reported to the Parish Council until days later.

Opposition Spokesman on Local Government, Desmond McKenzie had called for a probe.
