Persons renting vehicles and selling them, police issue warning

Published:Wednesday | March 12, 2014 | 9:29 AM

The Police are warning people who rent or buy motorcars to be wary of the individuals they do business with, to avoid being victims of theft or fraud.

They are being advised to capture all the necessary information about persons they are doing business with, such as; name, address, driver’s license number and a passport sized photograph of the individual.

The police say the warning comes against the background of several reports of people renting cars from owners and selling them to unsuspecting persons and used car dealers.

As such, the police are urging car dealers to contact them for any assistance they may need to determine whether a vehicle was stolen or has been tampered with.

Persons with concerns are being asked to contact the Stolen Motor Vehicle Unit at 922-7050, Police 119 emergency number or the nearest Police Station.
