China wants Jamaican English teachers

Jamaica’s Ministry of Education is seeking 59 culturally-aware English teachers to fill teaching positions in Shanghai, China.



The Ministry said in a release that the move followed discussions between authorities in Shanghai and Education Minister Ronald Thwaites during his visit last year.



Qualified applicants for the teaching positions in China must have minimum qualification that include a degree in English and trained teacher’s certification or a Bachelor in Education specialising in English.



Qualification must also include training in early childhood, primary or secondary education levels.



Applicants must also possess three to five years of experience in teaching English.



In addition, applicants are required to be culturally aware and passionate about sharing the Jamaican culture with others, be able to function and adapt to the Chinese culture, as well as possess excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills.



Candidates for the English teacher jobs in China must also possess excellent analytical and problem solving skills, have good interpersonal and people-management skills, and a willingness to learn Mandarin.
