Digicel Jamaica is rejecting as erroneous, claims by LIME Jamaica that it breached a confidentiality clause in going public with information over the handling of a phone call issue by LIME.

Yesterday, Digicel released a statement, urging the Office of Utilities Regulation to investigate LIME over the alleged irregular charges to some of its customers for calls to certain LIME numbers.

Digicel claims that it has been experiencing anomalies in the rates charged across 12 of LIME’s Caribbean markets since November last year.

However, LIME responded saying it is shocked by what it calls malicious and potentially libelous statements from Digicel.

LIME also said it will be taking action against Digicel.

LIME says Digicel wrote to it regarding an issue with calls that were made to a few LIME numbers by Digicel customers and the issue was subsequently settled in January.

According to LIME, both parties operated under a confidential agreement and it appears that in issuing a statement, Digicel is in material breach of this agreement.

However, Digicel says it is disappointed to see that LIME is magnifying false claims about confidentiality breaches.

Digicel also says the issue is not an overcharging issue, noting that it involves LIME’s call handling systems in some Caribbean markets which can result in customers of all networks being unjustly charged for calls to LIME.

Digicel is also alleging that the issue affects its customers and could affect any fixed or mobile customer who dial an affected LIME number.

The telecommunications company says it has asked the OUR to set up a mechanism to ensure that LIME can compensate affected customers.

LIME has not said what action it will take against Digicel.
