CUBAN LIGHT BULB TRIAL: Lawyers to make oral no-case submissions

Published:Tuesday | March 18, 2014 | 8:31 AM

Defence attorneys in the Cuban light bulb trial are today expected to begin making oral submissions in their no-case applications.

They filed written submissions last week in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.

The attorneys are seeking to have Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey dismiss the case against former junior energy minister Kern Spencer and his former personal assistant Colleen Wright.

The prosecution closed its case in the five-year-old trial last month.

The crown called 20 witnesses and 85 exhibits were admitted into evidence.

Spencer and Wright are on trial for alleged money laundering and illicit enrichment arising from the implementation of the Cuban light bulb programme.
