KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Housing minister has disclosed that the developer partnering with the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) on the Bernard Lodge Housing Development has indicated it has had to seek new financing arrangements for the project.

He says this became necessary based on new internal arrangements in respect of the ownership structure of the developer, Malphrus Incorporated.

However, Housing Minister Dr Omar Davies says there is ongoing discussion between the HAJ and Malphrus Incorporated and the Agency has been assured that all prior commitments will be honoured.

Davies was speaking in parliament yesterday where he announced that houses under the HAJ initiative would not be ready for the month-end delivery deadline.

He says the deadline has been pushed back to July.

The HAJ had collected $400,000 downpayments from more than 600 successful applicants for homes in the development.

Davies has disclosed that some disgruntled depositors had to be refunded their downpayment.

However, he says others have since filled their slots.
