AUDIO: Education Minister to investigate 'racist' textbook

KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Education Minister Ronald Thwaites says the Ministry will be conducting an investigation into claims that a textbook contains what could be considered racist comments.




The book, Creative English for Caribbean Primary Schools: Level 2 has been approved for use in primary schools.



Senior Lecturer in cultural studies at the University of the West Indies Dr Sonjah Stanley Niaah has raised concern about the text which associates beauty with European features.



The Education Minister says he has high regards for Dr Stanley Niaah and will conduct an investigation.



The University Lecturer says the book should be taken off the list unless it is revised.
