The education ministry says a textbook alleged to contain racist content is not a part of its approved textbook list for 2013/2014.

Senior Lecturer in cultural studies at the University of the West Indies Dr Sonjah Stanley Niaah had raised concerns about the book, Creative English for Caribbean Primary Schools, Level 2.

She said the text seemed to associate beauty with European features.

However, the education ministry says the book comes in five different levels.

It says levels four and five are a part of the approved textbook list and are used in grades four and five.

however, it says levels one, two and three of the textbook are not approved by the Ministry.

It says schools have been allowed to compile their own book list.

However, it says starting in the coming school year the Ministry will be requiring schools to send a list of such books for review and approval.
