The World Bank has approved financial aid totalling US$36 million to help with the recovery efforts in St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The World Bank says the funding, which were approved under its crisis response window, should benefit more than 30 thousand people.

The funding comes nearly three months after a freak storm lashed sections of both countries on Christmas Day last year leaving 12 people dead and extensive infrastructural damage in its wake.

The World Bank says loss assessments done in January put the total losses in St Vincent and the Grenadines at US$108 million and US$99 million for St Lucia.

The international financial institution notes that the impact of the storm was concentrated in areas with the highest levels of poverty.
