Officials in Malaysia today announced that China is investigating a new satellite image of debris in the southern Indian Ocean which is believed to be from the Malaysian Airline flight that has been missing for three weeks.

Malaysia's Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein made the announcement after he was handed a note during his daily press briefing.

Hussein says China plans to send ships to the area shortly and is expected to make an announcement in a few hours.

Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 with 239 people on board disappeared from radar on March 8.

Malaysian officials suspect that the plane, which was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, was deliberately taken off course.
