More security for Negril health centre
Security has been increased at the Negril Health Centre in Westmoreland following a series of break-ins, robberies and threats to staff.
The health ministry made the announcement following a meeting on Friday with the Western Regional Health Authority and the police.
Minister of State with responsibility for Primary Health Care, Luther Buchanan, says a closer look into the security of the health centre has been long overdue given the number of break-ins for more than a decade The facility was broken into last Monday, which is the second since this year.
As part of the new security measures, the police will conduct a security survey of the property and provide guidance on the best and most practical short and medium term solutions.
The measures will include a meeting with the staff of the health centre and the police to ensure all responsibilities are understood. Staff will be required to secure themselves and their work areas, while additional police patrols, reinforcement of a perimeter wall and security protocols will be established.
