Published:Wednesday | March 26, 2014 | 1:34 PM

Cabinet has decided against renaming the Throne Speech the Peoples Speech.

Leader of Government business Phillip Paulwell made the announcement in Gordon House yesterday.

He said Cabinet has decided that the parliament should work closely to deal with issues relating to the country's sovereignty.

Member of Parliament for north east St Elizabeth Raymond Pryce had brought the motion for the renaming of the throne speech.

In bring the motion to Parliament in 2012, Pryce had said the renaming of the speech would be a timely and lasting acknowledgement that the priorities, policies and programmes contained in it are intended to give thorough meaning to the primary responsibility of all governments.

Pryce moved the motion against the background of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller's declaration then that Jamaica would be seeking to remove the Queen as Head of State.
