NWU seeking labour ministry's intervention in Highway 2000 dispute

The National Workers Union (NWU) says it will writing to the labour ministry today, seeking its intervention in a dispute between China Harbour Engineering Company and Jamaican workers on the north-south link of Highway 2000.

The workers have been on strike since Monday to voice their dissatisfaction with pay rates and working conditions.

Assistant Island Supervisor at the NWU Khurt Fletcher says the workers turned up at the site this morning to discover that work has been halted for three days.

He says the workers were not given notice that the site would be closed.

Fletcher says the workers are still awaiting a decision from the company on the issues of concern regarding the certain conditions laid out in the Master Builders Association contract.
