Ex-policeman found dead, throat slashed

An ex-policeman, who was formerly assigned to the St James Police Division, was found with his throat slashed at his Cornwall Courts home, in Montego Bay, this morning.

The dead man has been identified as Kirk Palmer, who is believed to be 43 years old.

He was attached to the Freeport Police Station in Montego Bay up to the year 2000 when he and two others were accused of robbing a musician and he was sentenced to eight months in prison.

The Corporate Communications Unit’s liaison officer for St James, Sergeant Peter Salkey, says the police were summoned this morning and when they got to Palmer’s home, his body was found in a pool of blood.

He says the body had what appeared to be either machete or knife wounds to the throat.

Neighbours say Palmer lived alone and had very few friends.

Efforts to get information on Palmer’s family proved futile as none of his neighbours or former police colleagues were able to provide any such information.
