Jamaica awarded for tobacco control efforts

The ministry of health says Jamaica has been given two awards for its efforts to protect Jamaicans from the harmful effects of tobacco.

The awards were presented at the recently concluded fourth Inter American Health Foundation (IAHF) Latin American Conference on Tobacco or Health, held in San Jose Costa Rica.

The ministry says Jamaica won two awards specifically for protecting the health of all Jamaicans with strong regulations against tobacco.

Jamaica’s Ministry of Health and the Heart Foundation of Jamaica/Jamaica Coalition for Tobacco Control accepted the awards.

The awards came as Jamaica gets ready to make further progress towards implementing the requirements under the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
