The Jamaica Fire Brigade says the fire on the ninth floor of the NCB South Tower on the corner of Oxford Road and Old Hope Road in St Andrew has been contained.

The South Tower and the nearby North Tower were evacuated minutes after 9 o’clock this morning.

No injuries have been reported

Public relations officer Emeleo Ebanks says is it is too early to identify the cause of the fire.

However, Ebanks says occupants have been allowed to return to the North Tower.

Meanwhile, the public relations officer says there are no immediate links between today’s fire and ventilation issues at the South Tower that forced evacuations last month.

On March 11 the South Tower had to be evacuated after suspicious fumes were detected.

At that time, the permanent secretary in the justice ministry, Carol Palmer, reported that there has been a long standing problem with suspicious fumes in the building.
