Kartel, co-accused to be sentenced today

Entertainer Vybz Kartel is to return to the Supreme Court this morning to hear what sentence he will serve for the 2011 murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidjah Palmer, fellow entertainer Shawn Campbell otherwise called 'Shawn Storm', Kahira Jones and Andre St John were convicted by the 11-member jury on March 13.

The four appeared before Justice Lennox Campbell last week, but sentencing was put off to today as the judge sought certain clarifications.

Justice Campbell has sought information on whether someone with Kartel's talent can be allowed to continue producing music while in prison.

Justice Campbell said if this is possible then he would make an order that proceeds from Kartel’s music should be paid over to the estate of Clive 'Lizard' Williams.

Justice Campbell is also to hear submissions from the prosecution and defence on how long Kartel should serve before parole.

Legal experts have said that Kartel and the three other men convicted for murdering Williams could face 25 years before being eligible for parole.

Non-capital murder convictions carry a mandatory life sentence.
