Health minister to tackle mosquito nuisance in Callaloo Mews

Published:Saturday | April 5, 2014 | 8:19 AM

Minister of Health, Dr Fenton Ferguson, is seeking to assure residents of Callaloo Mews, Spanish Town Road that immediate vector control measures will be taken to tackle the mosquito nuisance affecting their community.

The residents had complained about the issue earlier in the week, and the Health Minister visited the area yesterday to inform residents about the action that will be taken to address their concerns.

He says fogging will be done as soon as the weather permits and then an emergency response will be developed after which the National Water Commission should be able to deal with the source of the problem.

Ferguson says regardless of the financial constraints, it would be a greater strain on the budget if there is no action to tackle the problem, given the likelihood of an outbreak of mosquito borne diseases such as dengue fever.
