United States adds 192,000 new jobs

The United States added 192,000 new jobs last month, as the country’s unemployment rate held steady at 6.7 per cent.

Economists say the March numbers are in line with expectations.

Some analysts say the figures released by the Department of Labour show that the harsh winter did not slow the monthly average for new jobs from climbing to the levels they were before the recession.

The Department of Labour says employment grew in health care, and professional and business services, and in mining and logging.

The US Federal Reserve has been playing close attention to employment rates as an indicator of economic health and says it will be used to determine whether a cut back on the economic stimulus is desirable.
