JUTC expects full compliance by Tuesday

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says it expects full compliance with the new sub-franchise system by commuters and bus operators by Tuesday.

The revamped system was scheduled to take effect last Tuesday, but was pushed back one week to give bus operators more time to meet all the requirements.

The new system requires bus operators to paint their vehicles yellow, issue tickets to passengers and ensure that conductors wear uniforms.

JUTC’s marketing and communications manager, Clinton Clarke, says Tuesday has been designated yellow bus day and all public passenger vehicles operating in the Corporate Area must be painted yellow and carry the JUTC certified sticker.

Clarke also reminded commuters that they should only take the designated ‘YELLOW BUSES’, pointing out that it is an offence under the Road Traffic Act to take unregulated buses.

And the state-owned bus company says it will make every effort to maintain schedules convenient to the travelling public as the new system is implemented.
