KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips says the National Housing Trust (NHT) has paid over the $11.4 billion into the consolidated fund for budgetary support.

Phillips told the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament this morning that the payment has not affected the NHT’s housing programme.

He said the Trust has earmarked $22 billion per annum over a four-year-period to spend on housing solutions.

Opposition spokesman on housing Dr Horace Chang has raised concern about the long delay in appointing a Managing Director at the Trust.

He said the agency has been operating without a Managing Director for the last six months.

In his response the Finance Minister said an advertisement will shortly be put out inviting applications for the post.
