BOXING: 'Sub Zero' beats 'The Judge'

Ramel ‘Sub Zero’ Lewis handed Jamaica another victory in the 2014 Wray & Nephew Contender Boxing Series with a split decision win over Gardel 'The Judge' Roberts of Guyana last night.

The six-round fight bout took place at the Chinese Benevolent Association auditorium.

Judges Keith Brown and Lindel Allen both scored the fight 58-56 in favour of the Jamaican; while Clifford Brown also had a 58-56 tally, but for the Guyanese.

With the victory the 26-year-old Lewis now joins his fellow Jamaicans Sakima Mullings and Richard Holmes along with Barbadian Christopher 'Shacka' Henry in the quarter-final round.

Sixteen welterweight boxers, including eight from other Caribbean countries, are contesting the series.

The boxers are fighting for a top prize of $2 million, with the runner-up earning $500,000, third place $250,000 and fourth $200,000.
