Residents in National Housing Trust (NHT) built schemes who have businesses or a business idea are being invited to enter the trust’s inaugural Entrepreneurial Challenge.

The NHT says 55 successful entrants will receive mentorship to either turn business innovative ideas into reality or build an existing business to meet market demands.

A final nine participants will be selected to share cash awards and business development support valued at $10.6 million.

The Entrepreneurial Challenge was announced by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller in her Budget presentation for the Financial Year 2013-2014.

She noted that it was to be part of the NHT’s overall social development programme.

The challenge is expected to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship at the community level.
