KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Edwin Allen High clocked an impressive 43.95 seconds at the University of Technology (UTech) Track & Field Classic at the National Stadium today to achieve a world record for high school girls in the 4x100-metre relay.

The time was also the first sub 44 clocking done by a local high school girl quartet in the sprint relay and it placed the Clarendon-based school second in the women’s 4x100-metre event.

MVP Track Club won the event in a meet record 43.31 seconds.

That time was also the fastest time for the year.

Edwin Allen’s world record run came following their splendid record-breaking 44.17 seconds in the Class One event at the GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships.

And World Championships 100-metre gold medallist Yohan Blake anchored Racers’ Track club to a record victory in the Men's 4x100-metre relay.

Racers clocked 38.41 seconds to finish ahead of UTech, 38.42 which also went under the previous record.
