Some Portmore residents to be faced with discoloured piped water

Published:Friday | April 18, 2014 | 9:07 AM

The National Water Commission (NWC) is advising customers in sections of Portmore that the water from their pipes will show varying degrees of discolouration for the next two days.

It says while the water is aesthetically unsatisfactory, it is assuring customers that the commodity has met the required bacteriological standards and is being constantly tested by its laboratory personnel.

However, it is cautioning customers to boil and settle the water before drinking and avoid using it on white clothing.

The NWC is also advising that customers may observe water being flushed from hydrants and valves throughout the network.

It says this is being done to accelerate the process of restoring the water to full normality.
