KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Jamaica Urban Transit Company chairman Dr Garnett Roper says the company will be settling the $1.7-million debt before the auction.

He says a payment plan was initially in place to settle the debt but may have fallen through.

Roper says he hopes the bailiff exercises his best judgement and that the buses seized have not been damaged.

The JUTC chairman says another outstanding debt to the victims of a 2010 crash will also be settled.

He admits that management issues at the company in the past have resulted in the company breaching payment plans.
