KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Prosecutors in the case against medical doctor Jephthah Ford say they have a video recording of him offering to bribe a policeman to drop a case against two Surinamese from whom US$500,000 was seized.

Ford appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court a short while ago on the charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Prosecutors say Ford offered the bribe during a meeting with the investigating officer.

He allegedly offered the cop 40 per cent of the money seized if he prevented the matter involving the Surinamese from going to court.

Ford has been granted bail in the sum of $1 million and a stop order placed against him.
