FOOTBALL: Young footballers get ready for Samsung Cup

KINGSTON, Jamaica:

The second staging of the Samsung Cup for young footballers will begin tomorrow in Kingston.




This year’s tournament comprises of 56 prep and primary schools and features players ages eight to 11.



Some 784 players have registered to take part this year, 112 more than the inaugural year.



The competition will be divided between urban and rural regions, each further subdivided into four zones with seven teams each.



The Samsung Cup champions will receive US$10,000 worth of Samsung products for their school.



Former national captain, Ricardo ‘Bibi’ Gardner, is once again the official Samsung ambassador.



Samsung has also partnered with the Usain Bolt Foundation, which will be providing all the footballs used in the tournament.



The matches will be played at the University of Technology in Kingston and the Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay.
