Detectives in St Thomas are now probing the shooting death of a suspected praedial thief whose body was found in Phillipsfield early this morning.

The dead man has been identified as 22-year old Kemar Clarke also called Kemie of White Horses and Hampstead addresses in the parish.

Reports reaching The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre are that about 4 a.m. yesterday, residents heard gunshots in the farming community of Phillipsfield and summoned the police.

A search was carried out of the area, but it was not until about 6:45 this morning that a farmer stumbled upon Clarke’s body and made an alarm.

The police at the crime scene were tight lipped.

However, informed police sources confirmed that Clarke's body was found with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the back of the head.

Two plastic buckets with mangoes were reportedly found near the body.

The police theorize that Clarke, who has previously been accused of praedial larceny, may have been shot while stealing the mangoes.
