Underwater search for missing Malaysia plane set to widen

Published:Saturday | April 26, 2014 | 8:18 AM

Australian officials say they may have to expand the search area for the missing Malaysian plane as the submersible machine looking for wreckage has so far come up with nothing positive.

The underwater sonar device has been plunged into the Indian Ocean, on 13 missions so far.

If nothing is found, the underwater search will be expanded outside the radius narrowed by searchers.

According to the CNN, it has been 49 days since the plane vanished. Malaysian and Australian authorities are mapping out a strategy for a long-term search that could expand to cover a massive area.
